TIP 1: Don't wear anything with writing unless it has to do with the picture. For example if you are a high school senior and have your school name or a shirt that says, "Class of 2017" works great. However any big images of brand names or professional sports teams tend to distract from the picture.
TIP 2: Wear bright, bold colors. They tend to stand out and brighten up the picture. Colors like white and cream can wash out your face. So, unless you are a bride, steer clear of white.
TIP 3: If you are doing a group shot, think of all of the outfits as one. So if you wouldn't put the patterns together in an outfit, they likely wouldn't go together in a group picture. Also, pick out two to three colors and mix those colors through out every outfit. For example, mixing light blue, dark blue and teal is a great combo.
TIP 4: To switch things up, mix accessories. Take a few pictures with a necklace and then switch to a scarf. Or you can put a jacket or cardigan over a shirt. You can also switch up your shoes. Accessories can make a big difference in photos. When you see the pictures, you can choose which one you like better. You don't always have to make the choices before the pictures.
TIP 5: Look at how a color impacts your eyes. If you have blue eyes a blue shirt can really make your eyes pop!
TIP 6: If you really can't decide, just bring both. I always tell people film is cheap these days!
